"I think football needs this. The game is about fans"
Paul Lambert says that football 'needs' supporters back in stadiums.
The Government confirmed on Thursday that Suffolk would be placed in Tier 2 of the new Local Restriction Tier System, meaning up to 2000 fans can return to Portman Road for games as of 2 December.
Town's first match under the new system at home is against Portsmouth on 12 December, with Blues travelling to Plymouth Argyle on 5 December in a game that will also have home club fans present.
"This will be good for clubs up and down the country," Paul told iFollow Ipswich.
"I think football needs this. The game is about fans.
"Without them things can be very difficult. I know it's only some fans returning for now but it's a start.
"It's a big step for everyone involved in football. You have to start somewhere and it will be excellent to see them back."
