"I'm just glad to get the goal that was the winner"

Oli Hawkins was relieved to finally open his Blues account in Town’s 1-0 win over Crewe at Portman Road.

Blues rode their luck at times during the game, but Oli’s second half header from a delightful Alan Judge cross was enough to ensure Town chalked up another victory.

“It was a perfect ball in from Judgey [Alan Judge] and I was in the perfect area to rise above the defenders and nod it in,” Oli told iFollow Ipswich.

“As a striker you want to score goals and when you move to a new club, you want to get your first goal early on.

“It’s taken me a little longer than I wanted, but when you’re playing and working hard, you put it to the back of your mind as you know it’ll come eventually.

“I’m just glad to get the goal that was the winner and hopefully we can go from there.”
