Zak Brown on target for Young Blues
Town U23s kicked off their Professional Development League campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Millwall this afternoon.
Ben Folami (pictured) featured for the Young Blues, as did new goalkeeper Bert White on a sizzling day at Playford Road.
Ross Crane, who arrived from Bury Town in the summer, was also involved, with Zak Brown on target for Gerard Nash's side as temperatures crept into the thirties.
Chances were few and far between in the first half with Millwall going the closest of the two sides. In the 22nd minute White was forced to make a save with his left leg and just before half-time the Young Lions hit the crossbar with a header.
Goalless at the break, Town went close three minutes after the restart when Matt Healy tried his luck from long range, but his dipping drive cannoned off the bar.
On the hour mark White was again called into action, this time stretching his right arm to claw the ball away from danger after a strike from inside the box.
In the 75th minute Brown fired Town in front. The tricky forward powered his way into the Millwall box before squeezing the ball under the Young Lions shot-stopper and into the back of the net.
But just a couple of minutes later the visitors drew level. A free-kick from the right was headed back across goal before being volleyed in from close range.
That was the last genuine opportunity as both sides battled well in the middle of the park without creating anything of note.
Town: White, O'Reilly, Cotter, Baggott, Smith, Healy, Viral, Gibbs, Crane (Oppong), Folami, Simpson (Z Brown). Subs not used: Bort, Crowe, Andoh.
