CHAMBO | LONG WAY TO GO

19 September 2020

Skipper on Rovers victory

Luke Chambers said he was happy to win the game today after Town's 2-0 victory away at Bristol Rovers, but is keen to remain grounded.

Blues were made to work hard for the three points at the Memorial Stadium. Two goals in the last ten minutes courtesy of an own goal and a fine idividual effort from Jon Nolan ensured Blues started the season with successive wins.

Town sit top of the League One table on goal difference after back-to-back 2-0 wins over Wigan and The Gas.

“I’m happy to win the game,” the Town skipper told iFollow Ipswich. “It’s looking good at the moment. It’s a good start, but there’s a long way to go.

“I think we were lacking a little bit of tempo in our play in the first half. We stepped it up in the second half.

“The boys that came on turned the game in our favour even more so and we managed to score two really good goals.

“We created a lot of chances which is something I think we struggled with last season. We’re playing a nice way at the moment.

Luke has started the campaign playing at right-back and he admitted he is enjoying playing in what he considers to be a more influential position in terms of attacking involvement.

“I’m enjoying playing right-back,” Chambo added. “I can get higher up the pitch and influence the game more than I can at centre-back.

“I’ve struck up some good partnerships with the likes of Toto [Nsiala] at centre-back.”
