"We thank Marcus for working with us and allowing us to proceed to this historic day"

Brett Johnson has sent his thanks to the Blue Army and says he is humbled by the opportunity of investing in the future of Ipswich Town.

Along with fellow Americans, Berke Bakay and Mark Detmer, their Three Lions fund is part of Gamechanger 20 Ltd that are now the new owners of the Club, having concluded a deal with the ME Group.

The Three Lions are part of the ownership group of the American team Phoenix Rising FC, which plays in the USL Championship Division but Brett is delighted that they now have an English football club allegiance as well.

“If you had a clean piece of paper and wanted to find a club with history; with pedigree; with gravitas; with that family support you couldn’t find a better club than Ipswich,” he told iFollow Ipswich.

“We are grateful and humbled by this opportunity. It’s an opportunity we have coveted with Ipswich for a while and we appreciate and thank Marcus [Evans, former owner] for working with us and allowing us to proceed to this historic day.

“Ipswich have had no many special moments in its history and now we look forward to making some more special moments. We recognise that there is much work to do and it will take a lot of effort. The ball will have to bounce our way to get results but as I said, we are humbled to be in this position where we can take Ipswich Town forward.

“I can’t wait to get over there and see the stadium full of fans and watch the team in action. It will probably be next season now because of the situation we are in with travelling and quarantine but I’m looking forward to it already. My kids are jumping around grabbing the Ipswich scarf I have!

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the fans over there as well. The response [on social media] has been overwhelming. Thank you for putting your trust in us.”
