CONOR'S UP FOR THE CUP

9 August 2021

"Cup runs are good, winning games is good. It doesn’t do any harm at all"

Conor Chaplin says that, while the League One campaign is the priority, a cup run would only be a positive thing this season.

The Blues begin their Carabao Cup campaign against League Two side Newport County on Tuesday evening. Kick-off at Portman Road is at 7.45pm.

Paul Cook has hinted that changes will be made from Saturday's 2-2 draw against Morecambe but Conor says that Tuesday's game provides an opportunity to build momentum.

"First and foremost, the league is definitely our priority and it’s been spoken about," said the 24-year-old.

"No one is hiding away from that which I think is important and it’s a good thing. Cup runs are good, winning games is good. It doesn’t do any harm at all. Momentum is probably the most important thing in football. Confidence goes with momentum and they can do wonderful things in football.

"If you’re winning games as a football club, it does breed success. It brings a winning mentality and that’s something we want to achieve here."

Tickets remain on sale here for Town vs Newport and will be available until 5pm on Tuesday. The match is all-ticket.
