PAUL | WE'RE A LEARNING TEAM

7 August 2021

"We look a new team and over the 90 minutes, we did a lot of good things and a lot of bad things"

Paul Cook said Town showed plenty of quality in today's draw with Morecambe at Portman Road, but admitted his side must look to eradicate mistakes as soon as possible.

Scott Fraser and Macauley Bonne were on target as the hosts twice came from behind to secure a point in the first game of the 2021/22 season.

Cole Stockton had capitalised on a mistake to net his and Morecambe's second, shortly after Fraser had levelled at one apiece and before Bonne took his chance in the dying stages.

"I am disappointed we didn't win the game, but I certainly take my hat off to Morecambe - they were absolutely magnificent," the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

"But their goals, from our point of view, were really poor. We'd just got back in the game with a quality goal, and then we gifted them the lead again. We can't afford to do that.

"We look a new team and over the 90 minutes, we did a lot of good things and a lot of bad things. We have a lot to work on and it was very important we didn't get beaten.

"The atmosphere was electric and our fans were excellent. They know we're a learning team and there's a long way to go.

"Macauley [Bonne] is a huge fan of this club and I am so pleased for him."
