"It was just one of those nights but I thought we we played well"

Paul Cook thought there was plenty to be pleased with despite Town exiting the Carabao Cup at the hands of Newport County this evening.

The Blues went down after a fourth-minute strike from Timmy Abraham, with the woodwork and shot-stopper Nick Townsend saving The Exiles on multiple occasions for the rest of the contest.

Town had a total of 25 shots, with Armando Dobra, Macauley Bonne and Kayden Jackson all going close, but just couldn't find the breakthrough on the night.

"There were some really strong performances out there," Paul told iFollow Ipswich.

"It was just one of those nights but I thought we we played well and I really enjoyed the game.

"There were plenty of chances for us and unfortunately we just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. If you don't score, we all know what happens.

"Whilst we are disappointed to go out, there were aspects to be pleased with.

"Best of luck to Newport in the next round."
