GEORGE ON BLACK CATS DRAW

18 December 2021

"We were very strong in the first half and there was a good intensity about us"

George Edmundson felt a point was the very least Town deserved against Sunderland this afternoon.

After James Norwood's first-half header, Nathan Broadhead levelled the scores with a right-footed finish.

Despite some late pressure from Town, the Black Cats left Portman Road with a point.

"Overall, I thought we were the better team," George told iFollow Ipswich.

"We were very strong in the first half and there was a good intensity about us. We worked the game plan well and I enjoyed the system with three at the back, without quite being able to get the win.

"Sunderland are a good team and got back into the game, though, but we didn't crumble. We were on top for large parts of the game, and the lads really enjoyed playing in front of that crowd and in that atmosphere.

"The new manager [Kieran McKenna] was obviously watching from the stands and all the boys are buzzing to get to work with him next week."
