"The occasion was fantastic and we put in a good performance for our fans"
John McGreal was pleased with Town's performance in front of a packed out Portman Road this afternoon.
Just over 29,000 supporters watched on as Blues were held to a 1-1 draw against Sunderland.
James Norwood opened the scoring with a superb header just before half-time, with Nathan Broadhead keeping his cool with a right-footed finish in the 50th minute.
The hosts finished the stronger of the two sides, but were unable to find a winner.
"There was good application and quality this afternoon," John told iFollow Ipswich.
"We changed shape and that was something we had worked very hard on. It was something I thought suited the boys at this moment in time.
"When there are nearly 30,000 supporters in the stadium, you can't be dozy and docile, so we set up in a way to press high and get the fans right behind us.
"The occasion was fantastic and we put in a good performance for our fans. You can't fault the boys for their effort and application this afternoon.
"It was a great day and occasion and the atmosphere was brilliant. The only disappointing thing is we didn't come away with the three points."
