"It's a global pandemic and it affects so many things as well as football"

Macauley Bonne says the Covid-19 pandemic and potential fixture postponements is a concern to footballers.

Speaking prior to confirmation of Town's Boxing Day trip to Gillingham being called off, Macauley highlighted that the current situation is a discussion in the dressing room, but emphasised that the main focus still very much on football.

"If games go ahead then great but if they get cancelled, what can you do about it?" the Blues frontman said.

"It's a global pandemic and it affects so many things as well as football.

"It impacts everyone in the world and if football can carry on then it's just a bonus. If it's cancelled, you just have to deal with it. There's not much you can do about it, but we are all trying to be very careful.

"We speak about it as players as well - of course we're worried about it. Because we're footballers people might think we don't speak about that type of thing, but before training we will chat about what's going on in the world.

"We keep things real but once we're out at training or on the pitch, football is all that matters."

Ipswich Town continues to follow EFL protocol regarding Covid-19, and is maintaining strict measures at both Playford Road and Portman Road to help prevent the spread of the virus.
