TRANSCRIPT | WOOLFY POST-SWINDON

Full transcript as defender reflects on 2021 opener at Portman Road

Town defender Luke Woolfenden spoke to iFollow Ipswich following last night's 3-2 defeat at home to Swindon.

A full transcript of the interview is below.

Woolfy this wasn't how we wanted to start the year, what are your thoughts on the result and performance?

Disappointing. The first goal we can prevent but the second one he's hit it in from about 30 yards, so that's a tough one. Two out of the three goals were rubbish ones to conceded, though. Even though we scored two I don't think we caused them enough problems going forward either. Yep, just disappointing.

What were you disappointed with in terms of the goals we conceded?

It's just stuff like pressing. We were going on our own. If you're on the pitch you can't always do what is being said from the sidelines, you need to go if it's set and right. You're the one playing so you need to do it yourself. That's the first goal. The second one we need to get tighter into the middle and the third one we've allowed him to come inside and he's scored.

Were there honest words said in the dressing room after the match?

Yeah, there always are. It's easy to get in and everyone is saying this and shouting that, though. It's pointless and worthless because we should be doing it out on the pitch. That's what I mean when it's just talking and talking - it's a load of rubbish. Just go out there and do it on the pitch.

Is that particularly frustrating for you as players, that we have been in disappointing situations a few times recently when what we all want to do is put things to bed and move forward?

Yep. It's cliché but we just have to keep going. We have to keep working hard and hope that the rub of the green starts coming our way. We want to keep working and then be more solid out there and create more chances because that's what we need.

If we're serious about a promotion push this season have we got to fix this instantly?

Yeah definitely. The league is tight as anything and there are plenty of teams still in and around it. It's not dead and buried. Everyone will be disappointed and there will be a feeling of doom and gloom but we need to, first of all stop conceding goals, and secondly, score more and look more threatening.

We all want to stay positive, Woolfy, so how do you pick yourselves up and go again at Burton next weekend? That's another opportunity to get a result...

The break that we've had over Christmas has caused carnage to the fixture schedule so there is always a chance at the next game to put it right. There's no point me saying that, though, if we're not going to do it in training. But then I can't really say that because we do work hard in training. I'm a bit lost for words to be fair, I'm not really sure what to say. We just have to keep going and keep fighting.
