"He always gets the best out of his players and I like his style of play as well"
‘No pressure then’ was Conor Chaplin’s reaction when Paul Cook described him as the best finisher he has worked with.
The two were together at Portsmouth, with the new Blue part of the Pompey team managed by Paul that lifted the League Two title in 2017.
“I saw the gaffer said that. No pressure then!” joked the 24-year-old striker to iFollow Ipswich after joining the Club from Championship side Barnsley, signing a three-year deal.
“We had a really good time together at Portsmouth and always got on well when we worked together.
“We have stayed in touch and he is someone I really enjoyed playing for. He always gets the best out of his players and I like his style of play as well.
“I’d like to think I can contribute goals and assists, making the right passes and help the team go in the right direction.”
Conor spoke to his close friend and former Portsmouth teammate, Adam Webster, ahead of his move to Portman Road and received a positive report back from the ex-Blue, who is now in the Premier League with Brighton.
“He spoke very complimentary about the Club and the area as well. He said he loved living around here,” explained Conor.
“He only had good things to say about the Club really. He spoke about the professionalism of the staff that were here and the way the Club went about things and that’s big for me as well.”
