NATIONAL SCHOOL SPORT WEEK

25 June 2021

"We're getting inundated with emails daily from new schools which is fantastic"

Town Community Trust's Mike Phillips says that their schools programme has grown over 100% despite the numerous challenges that the Covid-19 pandemic has presented.

The Trust's schools development manager was speaking to iFollow Ipswich at the end of National School Sport Week 2021.

During the 2020/21 academic year, Town's Trust and the schools they work with have had to operate around lockdowns and closures amongst other restrictions and regulations.

Mike provided an update on how the Trust has progressed with their schools programme in recent months.

"Schools have had it very difficult this year," he told iFollow Ipswich.

"Schools like to be very proactive and think ahead but this year has been very reactive. The schools have been fantastic; the schools we've worked with through lockdowns and after lockdowns. Sport has been so important for the children so it's great to see that they've managed to continue that sport and continue to help children to stay active.

"We've returned to all of the schools we were in and we're getting inundated with emails daily from new schools which is fantastic. It's really exciting to see how the spread of Ipswich Town Community Trust is growing so quickly.

"We've grown over 100% in such a short space of time, it's been fantastic to see. Schools put a lot of faith in their external providers. We are one of many but we'd like to think that we are one of the top ones as a multi-sport provider, not just football. Hopefully we can continue to do that through to next year."
