"I feel the support from Ipswich massively"
Local heavyweight boxer Fabio Wardley is back in the ring this Saturday as he takes on two-time world title challenger Eric Molina.
The fight is part of the ‘Rumble on the Rock’ event which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Box Office from Gibraltar.
Wardley’s opponent Molina is an experienced boxer who has previously fought Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder for world titles and Fabio admits it’ll be the biggest fight of his impressive career to date.
“It’s a massive fight for me, my team and for everything that I’m trying to do,” Fabio told the Club website.
“This is that first real test for me to see what level I’m at and to see how far I can go in the sport.
“He’s [Eric Molina] fought at world level twice and it’s the only level he’s lost at. He’s vastly experienced – a lot more than me.”
The 26-year-old heavyweight is a former Town Academy player and reiterated his future plans to one day fight at Portman Road.
“I feel the support from home in Ipswich massively,” Fabio added.
“As every fight passes, and the bigger the profile of fight, the more I feel the town as a whole getting behind me.
“Everyone has been really on board with supporting me and I‘m very grateful for that.
“Fighting at Portman Road one day is definitely on my bucket list. It’s a good few years away, but it’s something I want to do in my career.
“It would almost be a full circle to bring it home and say thank you to everyone who has supported me and travelled up and down the country to wherever my fights have been.”
Fabio's fight is set to get under way at approximately 9.15pm on Sky Sports Box Office and is part of the undercard of Dillian Whyte's rematch against Alexander Povetkin.
