"You don’t ever go to Fratton Park and get it easy"
Paul Cook admits that Saturday's away fixture at Portsmouth could be a 'big game' in the context of the League One promotion race.
Town, who are one point outside of the play-off places going into the weekend, travel to the South Coast sitting three places and two points ahead of their hosts.
Pompey are, however, winless since early February with former manager Kenny Jackett departing following last weekend's EFL Trophy final defeat to Salford.
Danny Cowley, alongside assistant and brother Nicky, were confirmed as Jackett's replacement on Friday, an appointment that Paul believes will be a successful one
"Danny and Nicky have only just gone in there," he told iFollow Ipswich. "Obviously, it’s disappointing for Kenny to lose his job but I think it’s a really good appointment for Portsmouth.
"It’s a big game in relation to the League table tomorrow because, for either team to win, it would give a big jump on the other one in the games left.
"Portsmouth have good players, it’s clearly evident for everyone to see. They’re no different than the bigger clubs in the division where, as we’ve found out to our cost in a couple of games, everyone wants to beat you. That’s the pressure of playing for big clubs and I’m sure the Portsmouth lads carry that pressure the same way.
"We know it’s going to be a tough game. You don’t ever go to Fratton Park and get it easy. The reality is that we’re very much optimistic and we want to go and play well."
