ANDY ROLLS JOINS TOWN

4 May 2021

Experienced new addition to backroom staff is relishing being in at the start of exciting journey

Former Arsenal physio and head of sports science at West Ham, Andy Rolls, is joining Town as director of performance.

He arrives at Portman Road with a wealth of Premier League experience, having worked at Chelsea for three years before joining Watford, where he was recruited by then Hornets CEO, Mark Ashton.

Andy spent five years at Vicarage Road, then headed to West Ham in 2009 as head of sports science before becoming part of the physio team at Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal for four years.

In 2018 he was announced as the head of performance at Bristol City, a move that saw him reunited with Mark and the pair will now work together for a third time when Town's incoming CEO arrives at Portman Road on 1 June.

Andy will oversee all the medical, strength and conditioning and sports science aspects at the Club.

“Ipswich is a massive club, what I call a proper football club and with the new owners coming in, it looks a really exciting challenge to be part of,” said Andy.

“That was the big draw for me, to be in at the start of the journey to try and get this Club back to where it deserves to be.

“I obviously know Mark well. I know his drive and work ethic and I know how determined he is to make this Club successful and I’m looking forward to being part of that.”

Town boss, Paul Cook, is delighted that Andy is joining the backroom staff at the Club and added: “Andy will bring with him new ideas and plenty of experience, having worked in football at the top level for 20 years.

“We wish him a warm welcome to Ipswich Town and I’m sure he will enjoy working at this Club as we go into exciting times ahead under the new owners.”
