The thoughts of Town's CEO ahead of today's game
Good afternoon and welcome to today’s League One fixture with Crewe at Portman Road. As ever, I’m delighted to welcome the directors, staff, players and supporters who have made the journey from Cheshire down to Suffolk.
There’s no two ways about it, Tuesday night was thoroughly disappointing. Off the back of a dominant performance against Sunderland - albeit we came away with nothing - we were very much second best against Rotherham. I’ve said before that we need to make Portman Road a home that we can all be proud of. Beyond that, though, it needs to be a tough place for every away team to come and play – Portman Road must become a fortress.
Although Tuesday wasn’t what we wanted, both in terms of the performance and result, it was our first home defeat since the first game of September and, without wanting to be too cliché, you cannot get too high or too low in football based on a single result. Today, and this week, presents an opportunity to instantly bounce back and build a run of unbeaten games at home again. After Crewe, we host Arsenal U21 and Barrow in the Papa John’s Trophy and FA Cup respectively. Again, I’ve said before that we must build a winning culture at the Club, so it goes without saying that we are determined to progress in both of those competitions, as well as picking up three points this afternoon.
First of all, we must focus on what will be a difficult game against Crewe. They have had a tough opening few months of the season but have developed a playing identity over a period of time and have also picked up points away from home at Plymouth and Rotherham already this year.
Once again, I ask you to get behind the boys this afternoon just like you have been doing all season. Let’s get Portman Road rocking and let’s start this week of three home games with a win.
Enjoy the game,
