WYCOMBE 1 TOWN 4

2 November 2021

Celina scores two in fine away display

Town returned to winning ways with an impressive come-from-behind victory at Wycombe.

David Wheeler put the hosts, who previously boasted a 100% record at Adams Park, in front early on but goals from Macauley Bonne and Wes Burns, sandwiched by a Bersant Celina brace, saw the visitors claim a deserved three points.

Paul Cook made three changes to the side who travelled to Plymouth on Saturday. Kane Vincent-Young returned with Burns recovering from illness in time to start in front of him on the right side, Celina being the other switch.

The first chance went the way of Town, Lee Evans' volley swerving wide of the top right corner after the ball had dropped to him on the edge of area.

Wycombe's first opening followed shortly afterwards, Brandon Hanlan dragging his effort off target after a cross had been headed back into the box.

The hosts took the lead on 17 minutes, Wheeler volleying into the back of the net after a corner had been nodded back to the penalty spot.

Hayden Coulson was forced off through injury shortly afterwards, having come off second best in a heavy challenge before the opening goal.

Town were level 10 minutes later, however, Celina's deflected long-range effort being palmed into the top corner by former Blues loanee 'keeper David Stockdale.

The Kosovan went close to turning the game on it's head a minute later but Stockdale was equal to his powerful strike this time around.

Having dominated the majority of the play for the rest of the half, albeit without too much goalmouth action, Town took the lead six minutes after the break. Edwards beat Dominic Gape to reach the by-line with his left-footed cross looking set to drop underneath the crossbar before Stockdale palmed it away. Fortunately, Bonne was in the right place to take a touch before volleying, on the turn, into the back of the net from six yards out.

It got even better for the Blues just before the hour-mark. Celina and Evans worked the ball to Vincent-Young, who teed up Burns. The Welsh winger took one touch out of his feet before rifling the ball into the top corner in front of yet another sold out away end.

Hanlan went close to pulling one back five minutes later but, following a goalmouth scramble, Ryan Tafazolli's left-footed shot hit Sam Vokes and Town cleared.

Wycombe began to see more of the ball with Joe Jacobson hitting a free-kick just wide of the mark from the edge of the box. Town looked dangerous on the counter, though, Burns seeing an effort parried away before Vincent-Young shot just wide after dancing inside of his marker.

A stunning save from Walton kept the hosts at bay again with 15 minutes remaining, diving low to his right to turn away Anthony Stewart's bullet header.

Town finished a fine away display in style as, in stoppage time, Celina beat Wycombe 'keeper Stockdale to a through ball on the halfway line before racing into the box and tapping into an empty net in front of a raucous away end.
