EARLY SHREWSBURY TEAM NEWS

8 October 2021

And updates on Hayden, Christian and Jon

Sone Aluko will be back available for tomorrow's home fixture against Shrewsbury, Paul Cook has confirmed.

The winger was set to start at Gillingham in midweek but missed out due to an illness which he has now recovered from.

Hayden Coulson and Christian Walton are also making good progress but will not be available in time for the Portman Road clash.

Otherwise, Town's team against Salop is likely to be made up from the matchday squads who faced Accrington and the Gills, minus Bersant Celina who is away on international duty.

"Sone had a little virus for a day or two that knocked him back, and I think there’s been a lot of it around," said Paul.

"Sone’s over that now. He trained well yesterday and Sone’s someone who has been knocking on the door to play.

"Hayden will start coming into the reckoning from next week. He’s progressing really well behind the scenes and after this weekend I’m sure he’ll be looking to get on the grass and join back with the first-team.

"It was a little bit of a thigh problem but he’s had good rehabilitation now and he’s not going to be out long-term.

"Christian’s been back on the grass this week, so he’s progressing really well. I would suggest that he'd possibly be available for next weekend."

Paul also provided an update on Jon Nolan, who was named on the bench in the Papa John's Trophy tie against West Ham U21 last month.

Unfortunately, the midfielder has had a blow in his return to fitness.

"Jon’s had a little bit of a setback in training.

"Jon was looking really good. He was looking strong in training and obviously the setbacks, while disappointing for us, are a lot more disappointing for Jon himself because he can’t get on the pitch and play."
