Late strike from Matt Ward, but young Blues defeated
Town U23s lost 2-1 against Bristol City at Playford Road this afternoon.
Matt Ward was on target for the young Blues in the Professional Development League Two affair.
Toto Nsiala returned to action following a hamstring injury, with Kayden Jackson and Louie Barry also featured for Kieron Dyer's side.
It was Jackson that was involved in a key incident approaching the half-hour mark. The frontman surged through towards goal before being brought down by Robins 'keeper Harvey Wiles-Richards, resulting in a red card for the shot-stopper.
Despite being a man down, it was the visitors that broke the deadlock as Louis Britton converted from the penalty spot in the 30th minute.
City then doubled their advantage 15 minutes from time as Sam Bell's cross evaded everyone in the box and found its way into the far corner of the net.
Ward struck late on but it proved to be too late as the away side hung on to take the spoils.
Town: Ridd, Alexander, Nsiala, Baggott, Clements, Healy, Humphreys, Chirewa, Siziba, Barry, Jackson.
