Successive wins for young Blues
Goals from Tawanda Chirewa, Albie Armin and Zanda Siziba saw Town U23s complete a comfortable Professional Development League Two victory over Wigan at Portman Road.
The hosts got off to a strong start as Chirewa saw a free-kick palmed around the post by Wigan 'keeper Sam Tickle before, a minute later, Siziba couldn't get the desired connection following a back post cross.
Chirewa sent another set piece over the top before Ben Morris had the ball nicked off of his toe before he could pull the trigger from inside the box.
Town's number 10, Chirewa, opened the scoring midway through the first half as he curled a left-footed effort into the corner from inside the box after his initial effort was blocked.
The young Blues made the perfect start to the second period as, within 90 seconds of the restart, Armin headed Cameron Humphreys' in-swinging corner into the back of the net to double the advantage.
It got even better for Kieron Dyer's side three minutes later as Siziba turned on the edge of the area before firing into the top corner to add a third goal.
Humphreys looked to add to his assist with a goal of his own but his shot was deflected into the side netting after a pass inside from Bailey Clements.
Harley Curtis saw an effort ruled out by the offside flag before Chirewa was denied his second of the afternoon by the outstretched arm of Tickle.
Curtis looked set to go one better moments later but he was cynically brought down on the edge of the area.
Chirewa could've added further gloss to the victory late on but he dragged his effort narrowly wide from just outside the box.
