CAM | THE STYLE SUITS ME

8 April 2022

"I think we have shown we can play some pretty exciting stuff and everyone wants to play that way"

Cameron Burgess says that, while his main focus is on defending, Town's style of play under Kieran McKenna allows those at the back, including himself, to try and express themselves more going forward.

The Blues have been operating with three at the back since Kieran took charge, with Cam on the left side of that trio after replacing the injured George Edmundson.

"I think we have shown we can play some pretty exciting stuff and everyone wants to play that way," the centre-back said.

"We have shown we can do it as a group and everyone is involved and capable of doing it.

"I’m definitely enjoying it and this style of play that we are playing is how I want to play football.

"My focus is on the defensive side, and getting the fundamentals right, but the way we are playing allows us to use other skills that we have as well. It's great to be involved in."

With just five games remaining this season, Cam and his teammates will be aiming to continue the impressive defensive record that has seen them concede just three goals in 12 games.

"We've been doing well in that area and everyone has played their part," he added.

"We want to keep that going and also finish the season on as strong a note as possible.

"Last week's defeat to Cambridge was a tough one but we have been working hard and everyone is focused on Shrewsbury this Saturday.

"We were always going to approach it with the attitude of trying to win every game, so nothing has changed on that front."
