Honours even against the league-leading Latics

Town and Wigan played out an entertaining draw as the points were shared at Portman Road.

Former Blues striker Will Keane netted at the end of either half to cancel out Conor Chaplin's and Sam Morsy's second-half efforts.

Cameron Burgess, Matt Penney, Chaplin and Macauley Bonne returned to starting XI as Kieran McKenna made four changes from Saturday’s defeat at Rotherham.

Elkan Baggott, Dominic Thompson, Sone Aluko and James Norwood came out of the side.

Town started brightly and created two openings in the opening 12 minutes, Janoi Donacien seeing a cross deflected into the side netting with Ben Amos flat-footed before Penney drilled over the frame at the end of a rapid counter attack through Wes Burns and Bonne.

Bersant Celina saw a low shot collected by Amos from just inside the area before a driven effort from Morsy was fumbled by the Wigan 'keeper, the Latics eventually scrambling clear.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play just before half-time, as Keane glanced an in-swinging Joe Bennett corner into the far corner of Christian Walton’s goal.

Town, who were forced into a change at half-time as Penney was replaced by Thompson, once again started on top in the second period, with Morsy curling a left-footed shot just over the bar from inside the area.

Chaplin found a deserved equaliser on 61 minutes. Celina’s free-kick from a central position bounced around in the Latics’ penalty area before Chaplin worked the ball onto his left foot and found the bottom corner from eight yards.

Wigan had a golden chance to retake the lead 10 minutes later but, following a mix-up, Bennett’s volley was parried away at point-blank range by a brave stop from Walton.

Two minutes later, the Blues moved in front for the first time. Burns' deep cross was headed back across the face of goal, where the arriving Morsy met the ball with a thunderous volley into the roof of the net against his former employers.

Keane finished from close range following a drilled cross into the box from Max Power as it finished level.
