EARLY GILLINGHAM TEAM NEWS

3 February 2022

"He’s not trained fully with the group but he’s progressed really well with his rehab"

The Blues will make a late decision on Lee Evans' fitness ahead of Saturday's home game with Gillingham, Kieran McKenna has confirmed.

The midfielder pulled up through injury in the warm-up ahead of Town's last Portman Road outing against Accrington Stanley last month.

Having been absent for the trips to AFC Wimbledon and Sheffield Wednesday last week, Lee has progressed with his rehab ahead of a return to full training.

"He’s a bit closer," the Blues' boss told iFollow Ipswich when asked about the possibility of Lee featuring against the Gills.

"He’s not trained fully with the group but he’s progressed really well with his rehab. We’re going to have to make a decision on him tomorrow. He’s an important player for us and has missed a couple of games so we’ll be looking forward to having him back - hopefully on Saturday but if not very shortly after that.

"We’ve got a pretty healthy squad at the moment with not too many issues so we’ve been able to get some good work in. I’m sure we’ll be ready and motivated for Saturday."

Kieran also confirmed that Matt Penney has returned to full training. Meanwhile, Kane Vincent-Young is back available having served his one-game suspension on Saturday.
