"We dug in and the players were cramping at the end. We fought and it was also a very important clean sheet"
Kieran McKenna said Town were well prepared for a tough test against Gillingham this afternoon.
In a tight affair, a second-half strike from Conor Chaplin saw the Blues take the spoils at Portman Road.
The hosts enjoyed the majority of possession, but clear-cut chances for both sides were at a premium.
"It was a tough game. We had the feeling all week that it was going to be a tough game, to be honest," Kieran said.
"I knew they were going to come here and be compact. They ran hard and were good on their direct play and flick-ons.
"We need to play much better than we did at times, but credit to the players as their work rate, especially in the first half when we had lost our way slightly - from a technical point of view, was excellent.
"We dug in and the players were cramping at the end. We fought and it was also a very important clean sheet.
"There is quality in the group so we know we can score, and it was good to get the clean sheet.
"It's another win and an important three points."
