Town legends taking part in charity cycle ride

Ipswich Town Community Trust and Futurestars charity have teamed up to launch a Tour of Suffolk cycle ride which will raise funds for both charities.

Following the success of many cycle rides that Team ITFC have completed in the past, the Tour of Suffolk ride will take place during the weekend of 12 June and 13 June and will involve a 150-mile cycling challenge through the Suffolk countryside.

The event, which will start and finish at Portman Road, is limited to 100 cyclists. Team ITFC will be led by former Town player and Futurestars director Simon Milton, along with former Blues skipper Matt Holland, who is on the board of trustees at Ipswich Town Community Trust.

Town legends Terry Butcher and Russell Osman have also pledged their support for the event and will be taking part. Club captain Sam Morsy, forward Joe Pigott and U23 coach John McGreal visited Portman Road to help launch the event.

Each cyclist will receive a Tour of Suffolk cycling shirt, a pre-ride breakfast on 12 June with an overnight dinner, bed & breakfast stay at the Potters Resort at Hopton-on-Sea. There will also be planned refreshment stops and lunch on both days, followed by a BBQ at Portman Road when the route is complete.

The Ipswich Town Community Trust was set up to deliver an innovative range of football and sporting activities, to engage, inspire and develop as many people as possible. The Trust represents Ipswich Town Football Club within the local and surrounding communities, acting as an extension of the Club to engage with local people and make a genuine impact on their lives.

Futurestars charity supports the most underprivileged children in Ghana and Togo. Although state education in Ghana is free of charge, the costs of the basic equipment needed for a child to attend school – registration fees, transportation, uniform, shoes, books and stationery - are not free, meaning that education is out of reach for so many families living in acute poverty. Registration is £99 per person and the fundraising target, which is to be divided equally between the two charities after all expenses are paid, is £900.
