Simpson at the double as young Blues secure sixth consecutive PDL2 win

Town U23s cruised to a 4-1 victory over Swansea City at Playford Road this afternoon.

Idris El Mizouni, Tawanda Chirewa and Tyreece Simpson (2) all found the back of the net for Kieron Dyer's side, who have now won their last six Professional Development League Two outings.

The young Blues were on top from the start and opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Kane Vincent-Young did well to beat his man down the right side before pulling the ball back to El Mizouni, who saw his low drive from just outside the area take a deflection and wrong foot the Swansea 'keeper.

Simpson almost doubled Town's advantage three minutes later, but his header from a Vincent-Young cross dropped just wide of the post.

In the 25th minute Town did have a second, though, as Chirewa smashed in a loose ball following a mix-up in the Swansea defence.

Swansea pulled one back three minutes before half-time as the young Blues went into the break one goal ahead.

Seven minutes after the restart, Simpson restored Town's two-goal advantage as he capitalised on another defensive mix-up before producing a cool finish from inside the area.

And in the 66th minute Simpson bagged his brace. Again Swansea made an error at the back, with the frontman driving forward before rounding the 'keeper and tucking the ball away from a narrowing angle.

Chances were few and far between in the final stages although Chirewa almost netted his second and Town's fifth in the dying moments, but for a good save from the Swansea shot-stopper who stayed big to push away a fierce drive.

Town U23s are now unbeaten in their last nine PDL2 fixtures, and are next in action when they face Charlton away on 11 March.

Town: Hayes, Stewart (Alexander 75'), Baggott (C), Stewart, Vincent-Young, El Mizouni, Humphreys, Smith, Chirewa, Hughes, Simpson (Curtis 83').
