TYREEQ | A CRUCIAL PERIOD

4 February 2022

"We have been strong at Portman Road and we need to make it a really difficult place for away teams to visit"

Tyreeq Bakinson hopes that Town can continue their strong run of home form this weekend but expects a tough battle against Gillingham.

The Blues will be looking to make it three successive wins at Portman Road when the Gills make the trip from Kent to Suffolk on Saturday.

Having joined on loan from Bristol City until the end of the season two days earlier, Tyreeq made his debut for the Club in Town's last home outing, Kieran McKenna's side beating Accrington 2-1 that afternoon.

Gillingham come into the game having won against Crewe on Tuesday night in Neil Harris' first game in charge at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

"This will be a crucial period," Tyreeq told the Club website ahead of Saturday's clash, which is followed by away fixtures at Doncaster and promotion-chasing MK Dons.

"We need everyone together and fighting to make our season a success. Home form is a huge part of that because we have been strong at Portman Road and we need to make it a really difficult place for away teams to visit.

"The home games will be huge and we want to carry on the strong run, starting this afternoon.

"It will be a tough battle. Things haven’t been easy for them, but they won in midweek and have a new manager, plus every game in this league is a challenge. Their players will want to show the new manager what they are made, so we need to be right up for it and try to control the game."
