Three points in South Wales for young Blues
Second-half strikes from Cameron Humphreys and Bailey Clements saw Town U23s win at Professional Development League Two South leaders Cardiff.
The three points sees the young Blues move up to third in the table, leapfrogging Millwall.
Cardiff had a good chance to take the lead on 17 minutes but, after winning possession on the edge of the area, Keenan Patten blazed over the top of the goal.
The young Blues had Antoni Bort to thank for keeping the game level after 30 minutes, the shot-stopper parrying away James Crole's effort from inside the area.
Crole went even closer one minute later but, after getting in behind the defence, his shot struck the base of the post.
Town's first chance of note followed five minutes before the interval but Levi Andoh's header after meeting a Humphreys corner bounced around the six-yard box before the hosts cleared.
Ben Morris looked set to get in behind the Bluebirds' backline early in the second period but Cardiff 'keeper George Ratcliffe was alive to the danger and raced out of his box to complete a perfectly-timed tackle and prevent the striker from finishing into an empty net.
Morris went even closer 10 minutes after the restart, latching onto Matt Ward's through ball before Ratcliffe denied his powerful low effort from a tight angle.
A strong start to the second period was rewarded upon the hour-mark, Humphreys firing into the bottom corner after the ball had broken to him on the edge of the area.
Two good chances to double the advantage followed, Zanda Siziba shooting straight at Ratcliffe before substitute Tommy Hughes blasted over from 20 yards.
The young Blues doubled their lead 10 minutes from time. Again, Humphreys was involved as he burst down the left wing before crossing into the box. Cardiff only cleared the ball as far as Clements, who coolly stroked a right-footed effort into the corner from the middle of the box.
