"They’ve been great for us all season"

Macauley Bonne says that he wants to repay Town's supporters for backing him after returning to the scoresheet on Saturday.

The striker, who had last found the back of the net in November, scored Town's third goal of the afternoon in the weekend's 4-0 victory at Gillingham.

Over 2,000 fans packed out the away end at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, braving the wind and rain in an uncovered stand.

Speaking after the game, Macauley reflected on netting his 12th goal of the season and working under Kieran McKenna.

"We’re buzzing to have a following like that," the 26-year-old told iFollow Ipswich.

"They’ve been great for us all season. They’ve stuck by us and they’ve stuck by me when I was missing chances, so now I’m going to start repaying them again.

"He’s [Kieran] got us playing some really good football. It was a good all-round performance and it's something we need to build on for the rest of the season.

"I really enjoyed myself out there with the different roles I was playing.

"I was still a striker but I was finding pockets of space which I wasn’t really used to. It was a great game to be involved in and the support was brilliant as well."
