"It's valuable experience against Premier League opposition"

Kieran McKenna was pleased with what he saw from Town against West Ham, but said there are still bits for his side to work on ahead of the first game of the season on 30 July.

The Blues fell to a 2-1 defeat against the Premier League outfit, with Kane Vincent-Young finding the back of the net for the hosts in front of more than 15,000 fans at Portman Road.

"It was good work for us at this stage of pre-season," the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

"It was a competitive match and we really appreciate West Ham sending a strong team here. The crowd got into it and both teams worked hard.

"Both sides were trying to win it and it was close right until the end. We looked like we were getting stronger as the game went on and the lads had more in the tank which is a real positive from a fitness point of view.

"It's valuable experience against Premier League opposition and that's what we want from pre-season. We played some good football at times and worked through the pitch well, but also had some not-so-good bits so there is plenty to work on.

"The new lads are settling in well and overall it was a good night for us. We really appreciate the supporters coming in their numbers on a Tuesday night as it definitely added to the occasion."

The full interview with Kieran is available to watch on iFollow Ipswich, while highlights of this evening's game are available on the Club's official social media channels.
