KIERAN | WE'RE IN A STRONG PLACE

24 July 2022

"I think everyone is looking forward to getting through this week and getting the ball rolling on Saturday against Bolton"

Kieran McKenna said that there is a lot to be positive about with under a week to go until the new campaign, but insists that Town must keep on improving.

The Blues' penultimate friendly ended in a 1-1 draw away from home at Championship side Millwall, with Freddie Ladapo on target at The Den.

Town will now close out their pre-season fixture schedule against Southend United on Tuesday night at Portman Road.

"We look in a strong place," Kieran told iFollow Ipswich following Saturday's Millwall draw.

"There’s a lot to be positive about and look forward to, but we know we have to keep improving. That’s not just this week; we need to keep improving over the next few weeks and months."

The trip to the capital saw Marcus Harness feature for the first time in an Ipswich shirt, while Kieran also addressed the absence of Dom Ball and Greg Leigh.

"He’s fitted in really well with the group and is a lovely character who is really hungry to do well," Town's manager said when asked about Marcus' start to life at the Club.

"You could see it today with some of his receiving in between the lines and some of his ball carrying. His clever little passes and combinations are going to be a big addition to us.

"Dominic was just a little knock and he’ll hopefully be training on Monday," Kieran clarified. "Greg had a little bit of illness, but he will also hopefully be back in training on Monday. It was nothing major for either of them."

Tickets for Tuesday night's Southend friendly, as well as the Blues' 2022/23 season-opener against Bolton on Saturday, remain on general sale here.
