"The second half was a really strong showing"

Kieran McKenna said Town lacked a bit of belief in the first half against Millwall this afternoon, but grew into the game and put in a good display in the second 45 minutes in South East London.

Freddie Ladapo's fine finish cancelled out Benik Afobe's first-half strike as it finished 1-1 at The Den in the Blues' penultimate pre-season friendly.

"It was a good day for us with lots to take from it," the Town manager told iFollow Ipswich.

"We lacked a bit of belief in the first half and we spoke about that at half-time. We were up against a team that have been in the upper section of the Championship for a few years. We didn't impose our tempo or intensity, though, and there wasn't enough confidence or positivity on the ball.

"Having said that, though, we didn't give much away other than a poor goal from our point of view. We improved as the game went on and found our confidence.

"The second half was a really strong showing. That was from both the players who were involved in the first half, and those who came on.

"There are lots of things to improve on and plenty that we are happy with as well."

Town's final pre-season game takes place on Tuesday at Portman Road. Tickets for the visit of Southend remain on sale here.
