"Credit to the staff who came up with the set play on the training pitch"

Lee Evans spoke of his delight as he made his first league appearance for the Club since February.

The Blues midfielder, who was sidelined with a knee injury, netted for Town in a 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers to kick off the 2022/23 season.

Aaron Morley had opened the scoring before Evans and Conor Chaplin combined for the hosts' equaliser at Portman Road.

"It's nice to get a point on the board but we are a bit disappointed to have not got all three," Lee told iFollow Ipswich.

"It was a great day and great for me personally to be back on the pitch after a long time on the sidelines.

"Credit to the staff who came up with the set play on the training pitch. It was a great ball from Chappers [Chaplin] and thankfully I caught it well and it flew in.

"You have to give Bolton credit for the start they made, though. They played the perfect away game for the first 20 minutes.

"But we showed resilience and character and we created plenty of chances, especially in the second half. The players on the bench made a real impact and if we keep creating like that, we'll score plenty of goals this season."
