Left-back becomes sixth summer signing

Town have completed the permanent signing of Leif Davis for an undisclosed fee from Leeds United.

The 22-year-old full-back has signed a three-year deal at Portman Road, with the Club having the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months.

Born in Newcastle, Leif played for Wallsend Boys Club before moving to Morecambe in 2016, where he progressed through the academy.

In July 2018 he joined Leeds, and, after impressing for the U23s, he made his debut against Aston Villa at Villa Park in December that year.

Leif was often named in the squad for the Leeds senior side that season, and played his part as their U23s were crowned Professional Development League champions with victory over Birmingham City in the final.

After the 2019/20 season was curtailed in March due to Covid-19, Leif rejoined his Leeds teammates in June and earned a Championship winners' medal as Marcelo Bielsa's side secured promotion to the Premier League with a total of 93 points.

His Premier League debut came in October 2020 when he was introduced as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Last summer saw Leif join Championship side AFC Bournemouth on a season-long loan, where he made his first appearance in a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest. He featured a total of 15 times across the season.

Leif arrives at Portman Road with match minutes under his belt having travelled to Australia on Leeds' pre-season tour, and is now the Blues' sixth summer signing.

"I am delighted to be here," Leif told iFollow Ipswich.

"This is the best step for me at this point in my career. I want to play games and help the team in any way I can.

"I'll always give it my all when I am out on the pitch and I can't wait to meet the fans at Portman Road."

"We're really happy to have Leif with us. This is one the Club has worked hard on this summer," Kieran McKenna added.

"He is a player that fits the bill of what we want. He is young, hungry, athletic and technically very good.

"Leif has played games in pre-season and we are hoping he will be ready to make an impact early on. He'll get plenty of support from the staff and fanbase, and I know everyone will be excited to see him play."

"Leif is a brilliant addition to the group," Mark Ashton added.

"He is hungry to achieve success at the Club and we are thrilled to have him on a permanent basis."
