SONE AHEAD OF NEW SEASON

27 July 2022

"I’m really happy with how our pre-season has gone and how my performances have been during it"

Sone Aluko believes that Town have prepared well for the 2022/23 campaign ahead of the new season beginning this weekend.

The Blues brought an end to their pre-season fixture schedule on Tuesday night with a 3-1 home victory over Southend United.

Sone, who wore the captain's armband against the Shrimpers, got the assist for Tyreece John-Jules' opener on the night, with Greg Leigh and Freddie Ladapo also on target at Portman Road.

"I thought we were really good in the first half," the 33-year-old told iFollow Ipswich. "We started the game with good intensity, scored an early goal, played really well and pressed really well.

"We were really happy going in at half-time. In the second half, we never really found the same fluidity and let them back in the game.

"All in all, though, we’re very happy with how pre-season has gone. We have a team that is pretty much fully fit. We’ve scored goals, we’ve looked sharp and we’ve looked fit. I’m really happy with how our pre-season has gone and how my performances have been during it.

"We’ve prepared ourselves really well. Saturday’s game will be one of those where there is a full house here and it’s against a good team, so it’s the type of game we usually play well in.

"We’re well up for it. As much as pre-season is good for working on some things, it’s not the same as competitive games, so we’re looking forward to getting the season going."

Tickets for Saturday's game remain on sale here.
