"The start of an important block of work for us"
Kieran McKenna said he was pleased to finish off the first week of pre-season training with a good performance at Needham Market.
The Blues ran out 7-0 winners at Bloomfields, with Town naming two different XI’s in each 30 minute half.
Conor Chaplin netted a second-half hat-trick, with new signings Freddie Ladapo and Greg Leigh getting on the scoresheet along with Matt Penney and Tommy Hughes.
“Today finishes off a hard-working week for us,” Kieran told iFollow Ipswich.
“It was good for the lads to pull on the shirt for the first time in a while and play in front of a crowd again. It’s the start of an important block of work for us.”
Three out of Town’s four new signings featured this afternoon, with Tyreece John-Jules absent and being eased into pre-season minutes.
“Pleasing for the new lads to get out there. I thought Dom [Ball] looked good out there and will prove a good addition for us.
“Nice for Freddie [Ladapo] to get his first goal and the same for Greg [Leigh] too.
“Tyreece is fully fit and has been training with us. It’s very important that we build him up slowly as we know what a talent he can be when in his best condition.
“It’s great to see the fans again and support the local community. Today was a great event, we’ve been looked after very well and it’s important to link with local teams.”
