Successful pre-season outing for Town

Town kicked off the 2022/23 pre-season with a comprehensive 7-0 win over Needham Market.

Conor Chaplin netted a second-half hat-trick, with new signings Freddie Ladapo and Greg Leigh getting on the scoresheet along with Tommy Hughes and Matt Penney giving Kieran McKenna's side a comfortable victory.

Kieran McKenna named two different line-ups for the first and second half at Bloomfields, with new signings Dom Ball, Greg Leigh and Ladapo all featuring for Town.

Joe Pigott had the first chance of the game with a left-footed shot from outside the box which was tipped around the post by Marcus Garnham. Sone Aluko then came even closer when his free-kick rattled the foot of the post.

Town's dominance paid off with 18 minutes on the clock as Kyle Edwards picked out Penney who calmly stroked his effort home.

The Blues went in at the break a goal to the good, and their lead was doubled just three minutes into the restart through Hughes who converted Kane Vincent-Young's low cross.

Idris El Mizouni then forced a smart stop from Garnham with a fierce strike from 20 yards out that was tipped over the crossbar.

Chaplin added a third for Town with a close range finish following good work from Sam Morsy.

The Blues didn't have to wait long for their fourth, and it was Ladapo netting his first goal for the Club with a lovely lob over the Needham 'keeper. It was 5-0 just four minutes later with Chaplin adding his second with a well taken header.

New signing Greg Leigh arrived at the far post to convert El Mizouni's cross and make it 6-0 to Town, before Chaplin's deflected free-kick squeezed in the far post for his hat-trick.

A good first pre-season outing for Kieran McKenna's side in front of a sell out crowd at Bloomfields.
