Almost £19k raised in two seasons as Town and supporters donate to NHS through shirt sales

Town supporters raised almost £11,000 following donations for the ‘thank you NHS’ message which appeared on the back of first-team shirts for the 2021/22 season.

This follows on from the Blue Army raising just shy of £8,000 when the message also featured on the lower rear of the home and away shirts in 2020/21.

To celebrate the money raised, Town staff visited Ipswich Hospital this afternoon. A shirt was presented to staff and the donation was made on behalf of the Club and the Blues' supporters.

The money raised in the 21/22 season will be put towards The Childen’s Appeal, a major redevelopment project which is now under way in the Paediatric Assessment Unit at Ipswich Hospital.

The project aims to transform the experience for young patients, families and carers when at the hospital by creating a modern, welcoming and child-friendly environment.

The redevelopment should then allow the hospital to create an environment which matches the high quality of care provided by staff.

Patients and their families have been involved in drawing up the plans, which will focus on:

  • Increasing the number of outpatient clinic rooms
  • Adding side rooms with ensuites where possible
  • Creating a two-bedded HDU bay for patients who require intensive treatment
  • Refurbishing the garden and playroom which will sit at the heart of the ward
  • Creating a sanctuary area for teenagers who are receiving treatment
  • Moving PAU, which cares for emergency cases, closer to the main ward so that staff can work together effectively and care for acutely unwell children
  • Creating separate entrances for inpatient and outpatient departments

“It’s an amazing amount of money received and we are so grateful,” Kate, Matron on the PAU, said.

“This donation will help us enhance the environment in which we look after children and young people at Ipswich Hospital. It is so important because we want to keep our patients safe and provide them with everything they need when they are here.

“It has been a long journey to even get to this stage, six years to be exact, but we are so pleased we have finally started. We are so excited about seeing it finished, which will hopefully be in around 18 months’ time.

“The community has really got behind us and this donation from the Football Club and its supporters truly does mean the world to us because it shows people care and want to contribute to The Childen’s Appeal.”

Next season will see a new logo feature on the back of men’s and women’s first-team shirts, with this to be confirmed by the Club in due course.

Everyone at Ipswich Town thanks our healthcare heroes for their dedicated and inspiring work, not only during the Covid-19 pandemic, but ever since the formation of the National Health Service in 1948.
