CHRISTIAN | WE OVERCAME A HURDLE

28 March 2022

"They’re a good team and they’re in that position for a reason. We had to nullify their threats and we did that"

Christian Walton says that Town made a big step in the right direction by beating one of the top sides in the division, Plymouth, on Saturday.

Argyle came into the game sitting fourth in the League One table and on the back of six successive wins without conceding, but the Blues controlled the vast majority of the game to secure a 1-0 victory at Portman Road.

Having been pegged back late on at Oxford, who were also in fourth ahead of the match as Kassam Stadium, one week earlier, Saturday's win was the first against the current top seven in the table.

"It was a great win," said Christian.

"The manager has said that it was a big step and a big hurdle we’ve overcome. Beating one of the top teams in the division; I don’t really think we’ve done that of late.

"To get a solid win at home in front of that amazing support was what we were all after going into the game and that was ultimately what we got.

"They’re a good team and they’re in that position for a reason. We had to nullify their threats and we did that. The boys in front of me were solid but it started at the top of the pitch with how we pressed.

"Both teams had spells in the game but I think if you looked at our attempts on or towards goal, it’d show that we gave them a bit of a battering."
