Victory for Kieran McKenna's Blues in Lancashire

Second-half goals from Sam Morsy and Kayden Jackson saw Town pick up three points at Fleetwood.

Morsy's first goal for the Club opened the scoring with 18 minutes remaining at Highbury Stadium, with Jackson sealing the victory eight minutes later.

Kieran McKenna made four changes to the starting XI as Bersant Celina, Conor Chaplin, Jackson and Joe Pigott returned.

Town enjoyed plenty of early possession and created a couple of good chances inside the opening 10 minutes, George Edmundson heading wide from a corner before brilliant hold-up play from Pigott allowed Chaplin to test Alex Cairns with a low drive.

Wes Burns, returning to his former employers for the first time after joining the Blues last summer, saw a drilled shot saved before Danny Andrew brought Christian Walton into action for the first time with what was a comfortable stop.

Goalmouth action was limited on a pitch that was cutting up, but Pigott wasn’t too far away from opening the scoring as he saw a curling effort deflected just wide of the upright.

The Town striker was inches away from breaking the deadlock just before half-time too but his shot, coming after a defensive mix-up, came back off of the post.

A stunning diving save from Walton denied Tom Clarke early in the second half when the Fleetwood centre-back’s volley looked destined for the bottom corner.

Town’s domination was rewarded with 72 minutes on the clock. The move started with a quick Chaplin free-kick to release Celina. The Kosovan drove at the defence before playing the ball right to Burns, who saw his drilled cross stroked into the back of the net by Morsy.

The Blues secured the points just eight minutes later. Celina was once again heavily involved, as he slid Jackson in behind the defence for the striker to coolly slot past Cairns with a composed left-footed finish.
