"It’s a busy time and there are lots of things going on"

LED advertising boards and a big screen are amongst the planned improvements to the infrastructure at Portman Road, Mark Ashton has confirmed.

Last week, it was announced that a new public announcements system will be in place ahead of the 2022/23 campaign after feedback from supporters pointed out that the current PA is not audible in certain areas of the stadium.

This was followed by the news yesterday that Gamechanger 20 Ltd has purchased land behind the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand, on the corner of Russell Road.

In an extended interview regarding plans for the summer, Mark spoke about further improving the infrastructure and matchday experience at Portman Road, in turn creating further revenue opportunities.

"We’re starting to digitalise the stadium," Town's CEO told iFollow Ipswich.

"The fans will see when they return for pre-season and the start of next season that we will have digital advertising boards in place.

"The plan is to have those on three sides of the stadium. This moves us into the digital era, allows us to drive more revenue and also to professionalise our infrastructure at the stadium.

"Supporters have talked to me time and time again about a big screen. That is proving to be a little bit of a challenge at the moment on where we put it.

"We’ve looked at the South-East [between the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand and Cobbold Stand] corner and there may be an opportunity to put it there. We’re looking at other options at the stadium at the moment.

"That’s purely due to sight lines and where it sits best but again, a big screen is something we’re looking at putting in place. We’re just currently working on the best place to put it.

"We’ve got to improve the infrastructure, which will ultimately improve the environment. It’s a busy time and there are lots of things going on.

"There is huge investment from the owners and, again, I can only thank them because they are determined to put the infrastructure in place to take this football club forward - but there is a lot to do."

As well as investing in the facilities at Portman Road, there has been an emphasis put on developing the staff at the Club, both existing and new.

Mark continued: "We have been looking at the staffing structure behind the Club to take it forward. There will be a variety of new people joining the backroom staff of the Club in key areas.

"This football club is only going in one direction. There is a team of people who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We are a people business and we have to make sure that our environment is at an elite level."
