Young Blues win PDL Cup in Warwickshire

Town U16s won the Professional Development League Cup this afternoon with a 1-0 victory away to Coventry City.

Rio Oudnie-Morgan netted for the young Blues in a tight contest at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The first chance of the game went the way of Town. Having won a free-kick on the edge of the area, Alex Graham stepped up but fired his effort just over the bar.

At the other end, Daniel Cullum was called into action as he denied McKenzie Stetton by tipping over his crossbar.

The Blues shot-stopper then saved Jayden Smith's effort, after the Coventry wing-back had tried to squeeze the ball in at the near post.

Cullum made another stop, this time from Rylie Siddall, as the side went into half-time level.

The Sky Blues pressed at the start of the second half and won a penalty just over 50 minutes in. Nick Nkansa-Dwamena was adjudged to have handled in the box, with Siddall stepping up to take the penalty. Cullum guessed the right way, though, and saved low to his right to keep it goalless.

In the 55th minute the deadlock was broken. Oudnie-Morgan captialised on a mix-up at the back andd finished well to give the young Blues the lead.

Coventry went close to responding immediately, but Isaac Moore's header from a corner dropped just wide.

Tommy Taylor almost doubled Town's advantage as the final whistle neared, but Daniel Rachel made a smart stop for the hosts.

The young Blues saw the game out well and lifted the trophy in front of more than 700 fans in Warwickshire.
