"I already know that I can do bigger and better things next year"
Wes Burns admits that he never expected his first season at Town to go as well as it did, but that he is now confident that he can improve on his impressive debut campaign with the Blues next term.
The Welshman signed a new three-year deal on Monday, extending his stay at Portman Road until the summer of 2025.
Having joined from Fleetwood last summer, Wes scored a Club-best 13 goals in his inaugural campaign in a Town shirt and was named in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Season.
Making 40 appearances and becoming a fans' favourite in the process, he also picked up three of the Blues' end of season awards.
After putting pen to paper on a new deal with the Club, Wes told iFollow Ipswich: "When I first signed, I knew I just needed to get my head down, work hard and be a part of what is such a massive football club.
"I think I’ve thrived under the expectations and that has pushed me to do as well as I have done.
"I never thought that I’d be the top goalscorer of a team or be as influential as I have been for this Club and this team. I never thought I'd pick up the awards I have done at the end of the season, too.
"Now that I’ve done it, I already know that I can do bigger and better things next year."
While the Welshman has understandably enjoyed his first season on the pitch, Wes also opened up about the relationships he has built off it, highlighting his friendships with Conor Chaplin and Janoi Donacien.
"I’ve said it before, I’ve not experienced a dressing room like the one here," he continued.
"I never would have thought I would build the friendships I have done in such a short space of time.
"I knew Chappers [Conor] a little bit beforehand just from playing against him. To have actually met him and got to know him as a person; he’s one of the best.
"It’s the same with JD [Janoi]. I give a lot of love to JD because he plays a key role in what I do on the pitch. He is a great lad off it as well."
