Welshman signs until 2025

Wes Burns has committed his future to Town by signing a new long-term contract.

The Blues winger, who initially signed a three-year deal when he arrived at Portman Road from Fleetwood last summer, has penned a new contract that will see him remain at Town until the summer of 2025.

Wes, 27, thrived in his first season at the Club as he picked up the Player of the Year award, as well as being named the Players' Player of the Year and Corporate Sponsors Player of the Year.

The Welshman also featured in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Season after netting 12 league goals from a wing-back role in his debut campaign in Suffolk.

Cardiff born, Wes, who progressed through the youth ranks at Bristol City, scored his first goal for Town at home to AFC Wimbledon in August, before finding the back of the net in a 4-0 win at Portsmouth in October and 4-1 success at Wycombe's Adams Park in November.

He was also on target in a 4-0 win over Gillingham in January, and bagged a brace away to AFC Wimbledon later that month.

Wes finished the season in fine fashion with another two goals at home to Charlton as Town won 4-0 on the final day of the campaign.

"I'm delighted to have committed my future to the Club," Wes told iFollow Ipswich.

"I believe the Club is only going one way, and I want to be a part of that.

"Once the season had finished it was very much about getting a new contract sorted, which I am really pleased is now done.

"A lot of people have played a part in my development this season and I am loving my football here. I love being a part of this dressing room and I am already excited about next season because I want to achieve things with the Club."

"We're thrilled that Wes has signed a new deal with the Club,” added Town boss Kieran McKenna.

"He's had a really strong season and has proved to be a constant weapon for us. Since arriving at the Club he has shown fantastic attitude and application, and I know he is eager to achieve things next year.

"It's vital that we secure the services of our strong players ahead of what will be a competitive division in League One next season."

The full interview with Wes will be available to watch on iFollow Ipswich this afternoon.
