Boss on Town's Wednesday win
Kieran McKenna hailed Town’s 1-0 victory away at Sheffield Wednesday as ‘a terrific performance’.
Conor Chaplin scored the only goal of the game, just before half-time, as Town recorded their fifth victory in six Championship games so far this season.
Town and Wednesday shared a pair of 2-2 draws last season, as both sides won promotion to the second tier, with Kieran proud of how his players performed and seeing the victory as a good sign of progress.
“I really enjoyed it and I’m delighted for a lot of reasons,“ Kieran told TownTV.
“We said to the players before the game that this would maybe be one of the nicest ones to win to be honest. We obviously had battles with them last season and hadn’t manage to win here, because it’s obviously a very hard place to go and win.
“I thought it was a terrific performance. We came out in the first half and carved through them, really, and should have been two or three up at half-time. We got the one goal, which is what we deserved, then showed some different attributes.
“We needed a second or third goal to kill it, really, but then at 65-70 minutes that should have been the scoreline. We had to show we could dig in and I loved the performance, showing so many good things, and I’m just happy for the players and the supporters.”

Last season’s visit to Hillsborough ended 2-2, with a two-goal lead being lost, but Kieran was proud of the way Town were able to see the contest out this afternoon.”
“We have developed and learned from that over time,” the Town boss said.
“We played very well here last year, getting 2-0 up but then couldn’t manage the game to get it over the line.
“Today was a chance to show growth in that area and, while we weren’t perfect, in general we did a lot of the right things and showed we have improved there.”
Town lost left-sider Leif Davis to injury before half-time, soon after he supplied the match-winner, with Brandon Williams taking his place.
“We don’t know yet but he’s in a boot,” Kieran said of Leif’s injury.
“He rolled and had his ankle stepped on at the same time, which is never a good one.
“He was excellent in the first half and we’ll see how he is, but Brandon came into the team and showed a real toughness and helped us see out the result.”
