Town U21 suffered a 2-0 defeat at Watford in the Professional Development League following a second-half brace from Ignacio Garcia-Romero.
The young Blues created the first chance of the game inside the opening minute as Oli Davis’ effort was saved well by Gabriel Ortelli in the Watford goal.
Both sides struggled to find a foothold as the half went on, with Tudor Mendel having the next opportunity in the 40th minute after he was played through on goal, although his low effort was denied by a strong save from Ortelli.
John McGreal’s side went close a minute later through an audacious lobbed effort from Matty Roberts which hit the crossbar, with the Watford ‘keeper denying the rebound from Davis.
It was the hosts who broke the deadlock on the hour mark though when Zavier Massiah-Edwards’ shot was parried into the path of Garcia-Romero who slotted home into an empty net.
Garcia-Romero had his and Watford’s second of the game nine minutes later when Massiah-Edwards picked out the forward from the right, who drilled his shot into the bottom left corner.
