Joe Sheehan joined as Manager of Ipswich Town Women in February 2019 following a spell working as the club’s Lead Coach of the Women’s Regional U21 Academy set-up.
Since arriving at the Blues, Joe has played an integral role in the growth of women’s football at the club and has helped bring through a number of Academy players up to the senior side.
Joe also helped to create Women’s FA Cup history in 2020 as he became the first Manager to guide a fourth-tier side to the fifth round of the competition, where they ultimately lost at current holders and WSL outfit Manchester City.
More FA Cup success followed in the 2021/22 campaign when Town Women reached the quarter finals. Victories against Newcastle United and Southampton in the latter stages of the competition set up a home tie against top-flight team West Ham United live on BBC Sport, where the Blues were edged out 1-0.
Joe’s side finished fourth in the 2023/24 FAWNL Southern Premier Division, with one of the highlights of the campaign being a 5-0 victory over Chatham Town in March. It was a significant occasion for the club as Town Women played a home match at Portman Road for the first time, with a crowd of 10,173 roaring them on.
The Blues made seven signings during the summer of 2024 and will look to challenge for promotion up to the second tier once again this campaign.
