The capacity of the stadium is 4,222 with a mixture of terracing and seating.
For those of you interested in history, just inside the main gates there is an old ornate turnstile bolted to the ground. www.footballgroundguide.com explains that this turnstile was in use at the stadium for a while having been obtained from Stowmarket Town in the 1980s. Originally the turnstile was at Portman Road in the 1930s.
Specific information for Town fans:
ITFC are not selling tickets for this game. Payment can be made on the day of the game at the turnstiles. Seat and terrace tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions and U18s.
Travelling to The Cressing Road Stadium
There are no official supporters’ coaches for this pre-season game.
The Sat Nav postcode for The Cressing Road Stadium is CM7 3DE.
From Ipswich, it’s a fairly direct drive. Follow the A12 to the Marks Tey interchange with the A120.
At the end of the slip road, take the exit to the A120 (W) (signposted Stansted Airport/Marks Tey). Continue on the A120 through the roundabout with the A131 where you take the first exit (A120). Continue on the A120 to the Galley’s Corner roundabout (this is the roundabout with the B1018 and McDonalds is on the far side of the roundabout). Take the 4th exit into Cressing Road. The entrance to the stadium is about ¾ mile on the left on Clockhouse Way.
Beware of average speed camera zones on the A12 before Colchester - they are not as obvious as you’d expect.
Please keep in touch with traffic news. With a clear run, www.googlemaps.co.uk suggests it will take around 50 minutes but bear in mind that the A120 is a main route to Freeport Braintree.
We generally recommend allowing at least an hour beyond the AA / Google / Sat Nav suggested journey time.
www.footballgroundguide.com advises that there is a small car park at the ground. Street parking is an option and can usually be found along Stubbs Lane which is the last turning on the left along Cressing Road before you reach the stadium.
Note: There are no planned engineering works on the day of the match.
Braintree railway station is just under a mile from the ground.
From Ipswich you need to take a London bound train at 52 minutes past the hour and change at Witham for Braintree. The journey time is 58 minutes. For the return journey trains leave Braintree on the hour. A change in Witham will get you back to Ipswich an hour and 25 minutes later. If you want a quicker trip back then you can change at both Witham and Colchester – this journey takes one hour and seven minutes.
Note that there is a second station, Braintree Freeport which is the stop before Braintree but www.footballgroundguide.com suggests that this is not a good option for the football club unless you know exactly where you are going as the route is not easy to follow.
For those travelling from London, trains leave from Liverpool Street at 48 minutes past the hour and take around one hour to Braintree. Return trains leave Braintree on the hour.
Getting to the ground from the railway station
To get to the stadium from the railway station, exit the station and turn right along Station Approach. Cross over Rose Hill at the pedestrian crossing into Railway Street. Turn right into Trinovantian Way. Follow the road round to the right (this is the B1018 and becomes Manor Street and then Lakes Road). Turn left into Chapel Hill (after the Sportsmans Snooker Club). When you come to a triangular junction turn right into Clockhouse Way. Turn left at the bend at the end of the road and you will see the ground on the right.
It will take about 20 minutes to walk from most parts of the town centre.
Note that the World Cup third place play-off game kicks off at 3pm so bars and pubs may be busier than usual, especially if England are playing!
There is a club house at the ground once you have gone through the turnstiles.
www.footballgroundguide.com states that the Orange Tree, about 5 minutes walk from the ground is the nearest pub. From the main entrance of the football club turn right and then right again into Cressing Road – the pub is on the left.
If you are on the train there are a number of food and drink outlets on the way to the stadium. The Picture Palace (a converted cinema) on Fairfield Road is a Wetherspoons around 5 minutes from the station and a 20 minute walk from the stadium.
www.footballgroundguide.com also mentions pubs in the town including the Nags Head and he Bull in the Market Place, the Boars Head at the far end of the High Street and the Swan in Bank Street. The White Hart is a minutes’ walk from the Swan and a further minute along the Rayne Road is the Horse & Groom.
There are food outlets at Braintree Freeport but no pubs.
At the ground
Braintree Town have advised that no segregation will be in place for this game. There will be choice of seating or standing. Note that some areas of the ground are uncovered.
A colour programme will be on sale for £2.
Food and Drink
The clubhouse will be open before, during and after the match with a range of Molson Coors beers and lagers and spectators will be allowed to bring drinks into the stadium in plastic glasses. Hot food and drink, plus ices and cool drinks will also be on sale.
